was tired
I'm telling you, I was tired. I knew that I was going to be tired because I had a 5:20am flight to catch the next morning and even if I went to bed within one hour of being done with the job I would still not get enough sleep. But, it ended up being worse than that because it just so happens that my boss from Australia showed up to watch us that night without telling us he was coming. We were in our green room afterwards and he just walked in. So, we went to dinner, of course. That's why I got 1.5 hours of sleep. I figured if I could maintain a sleep state for the maximum amount of time on the trip back that I would be able to catch up another 4 hours. I tried hard to do that, but trying hard to sleep doesn't work well anytime, especially on a plane. Somewhere over Louisiana I woke and looked out the window. Everything was murky blue and churning calmly. Then, a crack spread across the sky from left to right. It was like a brilliant flowing red river of lava that slowly widened and brightened. The light caught the indigo tips of the clouds that were both above and below and frosted them. Probably one of the most beautiful things that I've even witnessed. I was so glad I woke up and so angry that I'd left my camera under the plane.
