If you fly to New York via LaGuardia your flight path most often takes you under the south tip of Manhattan. If it's dusk or later and you are on the left side of the plane you will be treated to a view of Manhattan's Avenues, each one a straight and true gleaming strip of tinsel, cutting a miles long swath through piles of skyscrapers. Then you will likely turn north and follow the East River, which gives you the best aerial view of of New York, showcasing the Statue of Liberty, the city skyline, and all the busy bridges. I never get used to it.
I suggest you keep this in mind when if you visiting New York. Fly to LaGuardia and sit on the left side of the plane.
