At 7:45 this morning I remembered that the water in our building was to be turned off at 8:00am due to street repair work. I hadn't done any of the things that one uses water for in the morning and so I began frantically trying to finish them all. In an uncharacteristically efficient move, the City of New York ceased pumping water to my building at 7:50am and I found myself standing in my shower in sudsy splendor with not a drop of water to be had.
