surreptitious

Sandy and I were drinking coffee in the afternoon and looking out a window at people that walked by. People-watching in New York is very entertaining, especially when it can be done safely behind a thick glass window.

A slight, ashy woman slowly walked past and began peering around. She reached into her shoulder bag and slowly drew her hand out in a fist. Then, in a whip-like motion, she flung her hand down and back behind her, scattering bird seed across the concrete. She obviously thought that no one would notice her doing this, which is what made it so funny. She repeated the operation three times and then boarded a bus, never once looking back to see the pigeons gorging themselves beside a giant, pink, filthy stuffed elephant that was leaning up against the trash can.

I love these little observations you make throughout - great little character studies!
