I used to play a game as a child where I would try to speak a sentence that I was certain no one had ever said in the history of the English Language. I would try to construct something that made sense, because gibberish didn't count - of course - but it had to be so obscure that surely no person had ever voiced such a thing out loud. I imagined that my efforts were being checked and monitored against a vast data base of all uttered sentences.
Today we were walking down the sidewalk beside Bryant Park and I unintentionally said something that possibly has never been spoken ever, by anyone, but I don't feel strongly enough about it to put my imaginary title on the line. I will assert that it's not been said more than a dozen times, but that's as far as I'll go.
Today I said, "Sandy, make sure you don't step on those squid there on the sidewalk."
(There really were two squid on the sidewalk, and Sandy missed them)
